Does anyone have an estimate of the drive time from Eastport to Boston? Would the fastest way be through Bangor? I%26#39;ll be doing this in approx a month.
Thank you
Drive TimeBangor to Boston is about five hours. I think that it would be faster to take Rte 9 to Bangor than taking the more coastal route. According to the chart, Eastport-Bangor is about 125 miles.
Drive TimeSomewhere I read where Route 9 was the better way to go but they didn%26#39;t mention any distances or time. Thanks for the input.
Route 9 is a very boring way to go with almost no choices on places to stop to get gas or something to eat or to use the bathroom. There is virtually no scenery. If you can spare the time to go route 1 (which should have little traffic this time of year), go that way.
If I were making the drive, I%26#39;d take Route 1 to Belfast, then Route 3 to Augusta, then 95 the rest of the way.
We%26#39;ll be going to Eastport on roughly the route (Rt.1) you mentioned. We%26#39;re going from Rockland so, we can check the drive time back.
Thanks
MicheleS has mapped out an interesting route but I%26#39;m not so sure how interesting it would be in April. April is not our most scenic month, to say the least (with ample reason, it is referred to as ';the mud season.';)
If your principal interest is getting back to Boston in the least time, then I still think that Rte 9 to Bangor and I-95 to Boston is the best bet. If you have the time and are curious about other areas of the state, then her route is a good one.
If you are seeing Belfast-Eastport on the way up via Route 1, then no need to see if on the way back--unless you maybe want to stop somewhere you missed on the way up.
The Belfast to Augusta portion of the route I suggested isn%26#39;t particularly scenic, other than just rolling hills, farmland, frozen lakes, etc., but I like to go that way (as opposed to taking the interstate all the way to Bangor) because I get so bored with interstate driving.
Our purpose is to get back to Boston in the fastest manner. We will probably take Rte 9 to Bangor. Thanks for all of the input.
Depending on traffic in the Boston area, you can get to Eastport in a little over 6 hours. 7 if you don%26#39;t drive like a mad man, which is recommended since once you get off of 95 you%26#39;ll be on secondary roads, although Route 9 has improved tremendously in the last say 10 years.
Typical route would be 95 to route 9 to 191 to 214 to Rte one to Rte 190. Or to make it easier but add about 20 minutes to your trip just follow route 9 to Route 1 just outside Calais and follow that down to Perry where you would make a left onto 190 which brings you into Eastport after going through the Passamaquoddy Reservation. Beware that you will need to do the exact speed limit through the reservation or you will get pulled over.
Route 9 will have almost nowhere for you to stop and get gas or eat or use the restroom, so before you leave Calais make sure you take care of all your needs.
Route 9 is a popular route for trucks, including log trucks. If the weather is lousy, you might want to go Route 1 instead.
