Okay - so here it goes: my husband and 3 children (12, 10 and 7), dog and myself are planning our very first RV trip for early July. We are so overwhelmed by the planning - especially in these areas (K-port, Old Orchard Beach/ Saco area) where there are so many RV parks.
Should we just stay at the KOAs because they are outfitted with all of the %26#39;amenities%26#39; - and I use that term v. loosely or are there other ones that would be better. We would like to be close to the beach/ocean. We would like the activities, pool, etc that the kids would benefit from and we would like to not be terribly far from downtown, etc. Are we asking for too much?
I gather that the KOAs get a bad rap from the tenters because the RVs have taken over. While I would understand that if I were camping, is that a good thing for us?
We know that there is not going to be the perfect park - but we are willing to pay a higher nightly fee for location, amenities, etc. - we just can%26#39;t tell if that is with a KOA park or another privately run park.
Please help! Thanks!
RV Park in Bar Harbor and Kennybunkport
There are two large campgrounds, neither affiliated with KOA, in the Bar Harbor/Acadia area: Bar Harbor Campground and Mt. Desert Narrows Camping Resort. Both are very popular; both are somewhat closer to Acadia National Park than is the KOA campground.

Have you seen a couple of RV parks that you are considering? Here%26#39;s a listing for southern Maine:

The KOA in Saco is behind an auto dealership, so I%26#39;d skip that location.
The KOA in Bar Harbor has waterfront sites. The pictures on their website are pretty accurate.
