We%26#39;re a middle aged married couple looking for some outdoor adventure without sacrificing our comfort or our bones! We%26#39;ll be staying for a couple of weeks in a vacation rental cottage just 2 blocks from LL Bean in September next. We%26#39;ve been there twice before and it%26#39;s a really lovely location with convenient shopping %26amp; dining, but we would like to explore more of the wilderness and the outdoors, we%26#39;d even try sailing or boating. Can anyone recommend anything suitable for the 50+ age group?
Freeport Vacation Cottage
For starters, you could try LL Bean%26#39;s walk-on adventures or discovery programs:

Freeport Vacation Cottage
Thanks, that would be a good starting place, and convenient too. The shooting %26amp; kayaking would interest me, not so sure about the wife though, she%26#39;s more the walking %26amp; sightseeing type, but who knows, I may be able to convince her to give it a try.
For walking, you could check out the trails at Wolfe%26#39;s Neck Farm:

Is that the same place as Wolfes Neck Park? The trails in Wolfe%26#39;s Neck Park are excellent especially the one that goes along by the sea and its only a few minutes away from Freeport. We%26#39;ve also been to Bradbury Mountain State Park and to Acadia National Park up Bar Harbour way. We usually drive to a destination and then explore on foot. Is Rangeley worth the trip?
We like the Rangeley Lakes area and camp there at least once a summer (usually 2 or more times). It%26#39;s a great area for moose viewing and there are several opportunities to hike, including the Appalachian Trail, as well as kayak, fish, swim, etc.
