We%26#39;re a couple going to Bar Harbor for the first time ever this June. Could someone recommend one or two fancy hotels or B%26amp;Bs?
I read through dozens of reviews and have had some difficulty picking out which places are truly luxurious. Basically, we%26#39;re looking for a comfortable room in a nicely appointed hotel. Thin sheets or small pools would put a bit of a damper on the experience.
Thanks for the help from anyone familiar with the area!!
Nicest Hotel or B%26amp;B in Bar Harbor? Please help!
Hotels and B%26amp;Bs are very different experiences. But, my picks for each:
Room 203 at http://www.balancerockinn.com/
An oceanfront suite at http://www.theharborsidehotel.com/index.aspx

True, hotels and B%26amp;B%26#39;s are very different...I think for a wonderfully luxurious B%26amp;B you should check with either the Saltair or the Inn at Bay Ledge, both of these are definetly more of a B%26amp;B then the Balance Rock Inn. You might also want to look at the Bass Cottage Inn as well. As far as luxury hotels, I don%26#39;t think we have any true hotels in this category...Harborside, Bar Harbor Inn and The Bluenose are probably the best in this category. Have fun.
Thanks for the help! I imagine we%26#39;ll be tired (and possibly dirty!) from a few long days at Acadia, and it would be nice to have a really nice room to return to!
I would choose the Salt Air Inn B%26amp;B because of its waterfront location walking distance to town.
Harborside is really nice because you are right on Frenchman%26#39;s Bay.. Ask for a room with the bay view. Also, it%26#39;s within walking distance to restaurants and shopping. You%26#39;ll love Bar Harbor. My husband and I got married in Mount Desert in July - five years ago. We went back two years ago and still loved it.
Also, the Bar Harbor Inn is great too. It faces the Atlantic Ocean. Ask for a room with full ocean view and balcony. I%26#39;ve found you can get the best rates if you book early. Both times we booked six months in advance and got great deals.
Good luck with your search. I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll fall in love with the area like we did.
Thanks again to everyone who has replied! I%26#39;m still trying to convince the boss here to stay at a B%26amp;B. I guess I wonder how crowded they%26#39;ll be in early June (i.e., will there be a lot of people or just an empty house?).
Another B%26amp;B choice would be the Two Cats B%26amp;B. It%26#39;s a little bit of a walk to the main part of downtown, but maybe only 5-10 minutes.
I am not sure that Two Cats B%26amp;B is what you are looking for if you want luxury or fancy...it would be a good place for a late breakfast or lunch....

If you go to http://www.sleepbarharbor.com and click on Check Availability, you can determine how full---or not---a given B%26amp;B is likely to be.
After rereading the original postr%26#39;s comment, luxary wouldn%26#39;t quite be the word (no pool), though it was pricey. Great breakfast though.
