Nubble Lighthouse

I%26#39;m thinking of driving up with my husband for a 1/2 day/day trip to see the Nubble Lighthouse. Any suggestions for walks in this area? How about lunch options? Is Perkins Cove nearby?

Thanks!

Hi SunshineD17,

Perkins Cove in in Ogunquit, about 15 minutes north of York Beach and Nubble Light.

One of the best trails along the shore in Maine IMO is The Marginal Way. Is starts in Perkins Cove. Here is a link of TA members reviews: tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g40790-d10鈥?/a>

A different way to see Nubble Light is by sea. Finestkind Cruises has a boat trip out of Perkins Cove, down the coast to York and around Nubble Light.

There are several resturants in Perkins Cove to chose from. We only went to Barnacle Billy%26#39;s and enjoyed it.

If you have time, for a great dining experince is eating on the picnic tables next to the ocean at the Lobster Shack at Two Lights in Cape Elizabeth. Yes, it is a lobster shack, but the veiw is Maine.

Enjoy your trip!

Depending on when you plan to go, things may not be open for lunch like lobster shacks. I have had good meals at Cape Neddick Lobster Pound. They are open year round I believe. It is in between Nubble Light and Perkins Cove. Just checked....not open until Spring. See - http://www.capeneddick.com/ . Open all year is Sun %26amp; Surf - anchorageinn.com/york-beach-maine-sun-n-surf鈥?/a> . Tables do overlook the open ocean and can be quite spectacular when the water is high!

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I%26#39;m looking forward to my visit :)

I would recommend parking along Long sands beach and then walking to the Nubble and then continue the loop by going down Broadway and Ocean Ave. extension. You can see the ocean and a lot of beautiful homes. You will end up at Short Sands Beach in downtown York Beach.

For lunch I like the Blue Willow in Perkin%26#39;s cove. It is best to eat there at high tide as the ocean will literally be right next to you.

Depending on the time of year, that walk along from the beaach to the Nubble is terrible. My aunt %26amp; uncle lived 30 years on that road (Nubble Rd) and it was constant traffic in season...tourists, huge buses, etc... There are no sidewalks and little space to walk. Just my opinion!

We decided to go this past weekend. We stopped at Flo%26#39;s Hot Dogs on Rte 1 in York for lunch. It%26#39;s not much too look at, but there was a line out the door. I always love a place that has a lot of history and very local. I%26#39;ll keep the other suggestions in mind for future visits. We never found Perkin%26#39;s Cover or the Marginal Way walk, but did walk on Ogunquit beach. It was low tide so there was a ton of beach - wide and flat. We made our way back to York and found the Nubble Lighthouse. I can see why you wouldn%26#39;t want to walk that road in the summer. I plan to go back to that area in the summer - maybe during the week to avoid the crowds as much as possible. Thanks again for all your recommendations!
