I am driving to Boothbay Harbor from NYC for the first time on Tuesday. Most likely, my husband and I will leave in the early AM. Can anyone recommend a place to stop on the way... perhaps for lunch? Maybe there is nothing special, but I thought I would ask just in case.
Thanks!
NYC to BBH - A good place to stop mid-way?
I guess halfway would be some place in Massachusetts. But because you posted to the Maine forum, I%26#39;d suggest the Azure Cafe in Freeport or Duck Fat in Portland. Both are very good for lunch.
The island that can be reached from Boothbay Harbor is Monhegan.

portland NH?
Sorry, meant Portmouth, NH.
Portsmouth is in NH. Portland is in Maine. Duck Fat is in Portland.
Hi troms,
I would think that the halfway mark between NYC and Boothbay Harbor might be southern Massachusetts. But since I don%26#39;t know what highways you plan on traveling, its a little difficult to recommend a location. But I can say if you come the more western route, you might be pretty close to the Old Sturbridge Village area which has lots of restaurants, etc.
Or you might want to detour off of route 95/128 which is the more eastern route to Maine and stop at Cape Ann/Rockport. This area has a lovely downtown with lots of shops, restaurants, etc. Or as others have suggested, Portsmouth, NH might work.
Sorry I can%26#39;t help you out more. Hopefully someone who has recently made a similar trip will post...

I agree that southern mass sounds right. Amherst is really nice. Also, I travel alot in the car and have started using a site called www.meetways.com that allows you to put in two locations and a point of interest (hotel, restaurtant, etc depending on what you want) and it will give you the exact halfway point and the restaurants or whatever you searched for in the area. It really helps me in planning, so maybe it will help you too.
