One Day/Night Visit- Advice Needed!

My boyfriend and I (ages 30 and 31) will be spending Columbus Day weekend in Acadia, and plan to drive to Portland on the morning of 10/13 and spend the day/evening in Portland.

We are celebrating our 3-year anniversary and would like to stay somewhere that%26#39;s a little on the nicer side (doesn%26#39;t have to be super fancy) and in a good area for us to explore, have a good dinner, etc.

What would be a good area for us to stay in? From reading other posts, I%26#39;m thinking Old Port?

Would you recommend the Regency? There are mixed reviews on here, so I am unsure. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Also, whats good for a nice celebratory meal? Again, all suggestions welcome...

This is both of our 1st time visiting Portland, so its a little overwhelming trying to figure out what area we want to be in, etc. Thanks in advance!

I live in Portland so I cannot comment on the local hotels. Re: dinner, however, check out: Evangeline; 555; Fore Street; Bresca; and Hugo%26#39;s. These seem to be on the short list of fine dining in the Old Port area

A nice place to stay in South Portland ,is the Marriott at Sable Oaks. It is very nice, and only a few miles from downtown Portland , and far less congested. Good place to use as your home base.

Looks like a pretty busy night in Portland, with highish prices. Eastland Park is about $75 less than the Regency so I think I%26#39;d go with that.

I would definitely stay in the Old Port. Check Hilton Garden, Regency is very nice and Portland Harbor Hotel. I think it is worth more money for convenience.

Good restaurants:

The Front Room on Munjoy Hill ask anyone they will direct you.

The Grill Room...walking distance

Fore St...walking disatnce

Enjoy.
