Hi! My husband and I will be in Portland for a few nights at the beginning of October. What would be considered Portlands best dining for good seafood, nice atmospere, and a glass of wine? Also,we are staying at The Regency...are there any recommendations for lunch or breakfast near there?
Portlands finest dining options?First off, the bar (The Armory) at the Regency has the finest martinis in town. For seafood, we like Street %26amp; Company, on Wharf Street.
For lunch, we like Duck Fat, on Middle Street. We like a light breakfast, so we hit Breaking New Grounds on Exchange St. for lattes and cinnamon rolls. For a more diverse evening menu, we like Fore Street.
Portland probably has more good restaurants per capita than anywhere else in the country. Check the earlier posts on this forum. It is hard to %26lt;not%26gt; get a good meal in Portland.
Incidentally, every place that I have mentioned is an easy walk from the Regency.
Portlands finest dining options?great!! Thankyou!!
If you click on my name you%26#39;ll see that my response is always the same when it comes to this question.....Fore Street. Love the place and eat there everytime I%26#39;m in town. Since I live in Nova Scotia, I don%26#39;t eat seafood much when I%26#39;m away but I%26#39;ve heard great things about Street %26amp; Company....almost all seafood and owned by the same folks as Fore street.
For lunch, go to J%26#39;s Oyster Bar on the waterfront. It%26#39;s nothing fancy, but will give you a great taste of the local flavor, both in the food and the characters at the bar.
The Regency serves an amazing breakfast. It%26#39;s a bit pricey, but whenever we stay there we get the package where breakfast is included. Don%26#39;t know of any other place, but there is a Starbuck%26#39;s about 2 blocks from the hotel.
And do have a drink at the hotel%26#39;s bar downstairs. Very cozy and comfortable.
Check out Street and Co., a sister restaurant to Fore Street. Great seafood and wine list. I second J%26#39;s Oyster for lunch. For other fine dining choices at dinner investigate: 555, Evangeline and Caiola%26#39;s (my favorite).
The Front Room also a very good restaurant.
I would personally skip J%26#39;s and go to either Gilbert%26#39;s chowder house or to Ri-Ra%26#39;s.
