Hi, Here is the delema. We will be in Boothbay Harbor Maine and will then be traveling to Woodstock Vermont. I have been told it will be at least a 4 hr. drive. So, what is your opinion on getting there? Would it be a better ride to just go straight across NH. then into Vermont and down to Woodstock or....head south out of Maine then over to Vermont. Reason for this is I was wondering which way would be more pleasant of a drive. This is our first trip and we are not very savy on directions. Whew...........hope this post does not make you crazy. Wish I could have done this different but we did want to see both these states.

It depends how much time you want to devote to a more scenic/leisurely route.
The ';fast'; way, counter-intuitively, is to head south to coastal NH (Hampton) and take rte 101 west to hit I-93 in Concord and then I-89 into VT. (Mapquest says 4 hr, 26 min.)
But a ';scenic'; route into the White Mts and then across into VT is very doable.
There are many options. Here%26#39;s one:
From Boothbay to No.Conway, NH:
Rte One to Rte 196 (Topsham/Lewiston) to Rte 9 thru Pownal to Rte 115 to Rte 4 to Rte 302. Rte 302 continues west thru Raymond/Naples/Bridgton and on into No. Conway, NH.
From Mt. Washington area take Kancamagus Hwy (rte 122) and rte 118 from Lincoln/No. Woodstock, NH to Canaan and west OR take 104/11 west to Sunapee and then north along the river before crossing into VT.
