Things to do

My sister and I are going to be staying in Portland from Oct. 25 - 31st. Would like some suggestions on activities or places to visit. Would love to see some lighthouses and visit some parks and the mountains. We have no schedule, so the trip is all going to be from the hip. thanks

Things to do

Crescent Beach State Park and Two Lights State Park, Cape Elizabeth are must-visits, also Ferry Beach State Park about 25 min drive from Portland near Old Orchard/ Ocean Park.

Sebago Lake.

Mt. Battie if you decide to take a day trip to Camden.

Things to do

Ll Bean in Freeport!

The Longfellow House, and maybe the Tate House and/or Victorian Mansion, if you like historic homes

The Portland Museum of Art is pretty good, worth a few hours for sure.

Shopping on Exchange St. and Commercial St. in the Old Port

A Cruise on Casco Bay Lines (mailboat run) if it%26#39;s a nice, sunny day

Day trip to Pemaquid to see the lighthouse (it%26#39;s the one on the quarter...), with a stop in Damariscotta at King Eider%26#39;s Pub for lunch, and maybe a stop at the Musical Wonder House in Wiscasset (prettiest village in Maine, according to Wiscasset...)

I would personally skip cresent beach and sebago lake. Both are great in summer, but late October? I think it would be too cold to really enjoy it. You will want to go to Two Lights for sure as it is located on cliffs and really showcases the powerful Atlantic. Portland has awesome restaurants, so if you like to dine out, just park in the old port and walk around.

It will be starting to get quite cold for some of the outside stuff so make sure to bring warm clothes. if you want to see mountains I suggest you head up into the White Mountains of New Hampshire. It is about an 1 1/2hr drive to the North Conway, NH area from Portland. Its unclear if you are staying every night in Portland and just looking for day trips or if you are interested in staying a night or two outside of Portland, either way its worth the trip up there. There is some really good shopping in North Conway, many outlet stores in a great mountain setting. Cathedral Ledge is a 10 min drive from there, a half hour drive will get you take you to some wonderful mountain scenery either up toward Mt. Washington or out into Crawford Notch on RT302.

Thankyou for your help, have mapped a trip to the

White Mountains for a day, and a trip down to Cape Ann another day. Camden sounds like a great idea and we will probably go up there also. Thankyou once again
