Does Red%26#39;s always have a long line? What about on a Wednesday in the middle of September? Do you think the wait would be an hour???
Red's Eats in Wiscasset
I drive thru there probably a dozen times each summer. I keep telling myself I should stop and try the lobster roll, but I don%26#39;t want to stand in line, so it%26#39;s going to have to be a relatively short line for me to stop.
So far, there is either a long line or, they are closed!
I don%26#39;t think I%26#39;ve ever seen a line with less than ten people in it. No matter what time of day it is.

I guess ten people in line wouldn%26#39;t be too long if it moves fairly fast. Thank you.
I am also in and around Wiscasset frequently and seem to have a lot more luck than Michele.
As you might imagine, Red%26#39;s is a lot more crowded at peak lunch and supper times, and on weekends. If you can avoid those times, you should do better. Also, mid-September is post-summer tourists and pre-foliage tourists, so I would think that your chances of finding a short line on a Wednesday in mid-September are good.
One other thing that is good and bad about Red%26#39;s is that they close when they%26#39;ve run out of lobster. Fairly often that means they are open quite late. I%26#39;ve even gone by at 10pm and found them open with no line. If you%26#39;re in the area and it%26#39;s convenient, you might try them for a late supper, keeping in mind that it%26#39;s just happenstance that they could be open late and that it%26#39;s less likely to happen in September than in the summer.
Earlier this summer I drove by there after dark and there was still a line of at least ten! I can%26#39;t remember exactly what time it was, but it was after sunset (these days 8 p.m.)
Interesting to know they have no set closing time, but instead serve until they run out of lobster.
I%26#39;ll set my sights on September. :)
I went by at 3 ish this afternoon and I would guess that there were about 25 people in line.
I drive by Red%26#39;s at least once a week on my way to Round Pond. I don%26#39;t think I have EVER seen LESS than a dozen people lined up. Even in the pouring rain.
We recently waited an hour and the line didn%26#39;t look that long when i got into it. BUT i have to say.. it was the BEST lobster roll i had!!
What other towns are you visiting? We can give you suggestions for other places to look for lobster rolls just in case you hit Wiscasset at a bad time. For example,
In Castine, Castine Variety has an excellent Lobster Roll. Voted best in the state in an unscientific newspaper reader poll.
In the Trenton (in the Acadia region) Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound has a very yummy Lobster Salad Sandwich. Not the same thing as a Lobster Roll, but still very yummy.
It probably won%26#39;t be until at least 2:00 p.m. when we get there.....we%26#39;ll just have to wait and see how it is. I%26#39;m not a seafood lover - haven%26#39;t had any lobster for probably almost 40 years and it was Lobster Thermador (probably spelled wrong). I just think ';IT IS ONLY RIGHT'; to try some lobster while in Maine and I think I%26#39;d prefer the cold lobster roll with mayonnaise.
Thanks for all your input.
I ate there once and didn%26#39;t think it was all that good, honestly. I think it%26#39;s just got the reputation so a lot of tourists go there. Sorry, not trying to be mean, I just don%26#39;t think it%26#39;s worth the wait.
