Camping tents / yurts parks

Planning a trip to Acadia for this fall (flexible schedule). The closest my time share exchange can get me is about an hour+ away. Prefer to stay closer.

Any recommendations or suggestions on tent camping facilities, efficiency cabins or yurts rentals in the area?

Also, is flying into Portland better than Bangor?

Thanks in advance.

Camping tents / yurts parks

As for camping, cabins, etc., here are a couple of resources:

http://www.acadiamagic.com

provides links to various types of rental lodging;

http://www.nps.gov/acad/

is the Acadia National Park website.

ANP operates two campgrounds in the park. Blackwoods is for all intents and purposes a by-reservation campground (it is very popular). Blackwoods is in the largest portion of the park. Seawall Campground is on the southern end of the island; it is a first-come, first served area (again, very popular). Details on reservations, etc., are on the ANP website.

There are other commercial campgrounds that are noted in the acadiamagic site.

Also, you might try searching on ';campgrounds'; on this forum and on the Bar Harbor forum.

Regarding Portland vs. Bangor:

Portland is roughly a 3 to 3.5-hour drive via the interstate to Mount Desert Island (Acadia, Bar Harbor, etc.); Bangor is roughly an hour. Given the way ticket prices bounce, I couldn%26#39;t tell you which is cheaper now (and besides, that probably wouldn%26#39;t hold for this coming autumn). Because of its relative proximity, Bangor is the favorite airport for access to this area and the flights tend to be fully booked. Obviously, if ticket prices are pretty much a wash, then Bangor is the preferred airport.
