Holiday in September 2008

Hi

After visiting Boston end of August 2008, I would like to visit Maine/New England for a week.

There are so many places to stay can%26#39;t think where to start. Ideally I would like to stay in beach location, but with old fashioned charm. Also would like to be suitably placed for visiting other parts of Maine %26amp;/or New England.

Could any one share their inside knowledge of the area with me? It would be really appreciated!

Many thanks.

Will you be one person or more? Looking on vrbo for Southern Maine, there are several nice cottage rentals. I looked under Biddeford Pool and Kennebunk,Kennebunkport. All have beach locations, old fashioned charm and are suitably located (not far from turnpike and other major routes) for traveling within Maine and New Hampshire. I didn%26#39;t check Ocean Park or Camp Ellis, but would also recommend looking in those locations.

If you are coming the end of August/early September, you will run into Labor Day weekend, so need to book soon if you see something you like.

If by yourself, there are hotels/inns in the Kennebunk/Kennebunkport area, but not the others I mentioned. (Ocean Park and Camp Ellis are south of Old Orchard Beach - lots of beach and hotels, but more fun/tacky, not old fashioned charm.)

A bit further up the coast (considered Midcoast of Maine) is the Boothbay Harbor region and the twin towns of Damariscotta and Newcastle. They ooze old fashioned charm and have lots to offer, but beaches are small in that area.
