Looking for opinions from people who know a lot about Maine - is Kennebunkport a good place to stay for 4 days - we are from NJ
Kennebunkport - a good idea for first visit to Maine?
Can you tell us a little more about what you enjoy doing? Who all is going? Adults, certainly. Kids?
We have visited a number of Maine destinations and now focus our vacations on Bar Harbor/Acadia. We have visited Kennebunkport several times but never longer than two nights which was plenty enough FOR US and our interests.
Kennebunkport - a good idea for first visit to Maine?
2 adults in our 40%26#39;s. just want to relax, dinners, shopping, take in nature, hiking-lite, maybe one day of golf. We were just going for 3 or 4 days. An alternatate to the jersey shore, getting tired of lazy days in the sun so wanted to try something new.
As I said, we have visited several places along the Maine coast as well as several more inland. Kennebunkport is nice but I think limited. As I mentioned in my earlier post, we have now settled in on Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park as our destination of choice in Maine.
One advantage to Kennebunkport is that it definitely is a shorter drive. I joke that it takes us five hours to get to Maine and another five hours to get to Bar Harbor. that%26#39;s stretching it a bit but not too much. We can make Kennebunkport in about 5 1/2 hours of pretty much straight through driving. It is 10 hours to Bar Harbor. So that is one consideration.
I think I would give Kennebunkport the edge on shopping. And the Kennebunk/Kennebunkport area does have some excellent restaurants. But so does the Bar Harbor area. As far as nature and hiking, Bar Harbor/Acadia wins hands down. Don%26#39;t know golf but I do know there is Kebo Valley Golf Club just outside of the village of Bar Harbor.
Hope this helps a little.
