Are there any interesting historic taverns or pubs in the Boothbay area or the midcoast area in general?
We visited a place in Boston once called Jacob Wirth and if you%26#39;re familiar with it, that%26#39;s the type of place I%26#39;m looking for.
Taverns, pubs? Microbreweries?
The Jameson Tavern in Freeport is the only one of any historical note I can think of at the moment. It has been operating as a tavern since 1801. www.jamesontavern.com
Taverns, pubs? Microbreweries?
My internet search didn%26#39;t find it, so thank you! It seems like this part of the world would be crawling with old ';public houses';, but for some reason it%26#39;s not. I look forward to checking this one out. I did discover that there are a bunch of microbreweries in Portland, so that may be another ';day trip%26#39;...
nnieser. sounds like your into some of the same stuff as me. Lots of them in England %26amp; Ireland but north America still being new not so much. I love the old places but a good brew pub also fits my style. In portland try Gritty Mcduffs, an older building with very good beers. Also the great lost bear although not a brew pub is highly recomended. I plan to be there Monday. There are others I can recomend all over the North East Utd States as i have visited over 130. In New York state north of Saratoga Springs there is a great hidden gem called Man of Kent. Quite an old building %26amp; quite British. There is a nice inn/brew pub in New Hampshire %26amp; Vermont in beautiful areas, one is the Norwich inn in VT (lots of history) the other is on the tip of my tongue but very nice. I will let you know. Hope this helps. Google brew pubs plus state %26amp; lots come up. Life is good. ITS.
Oh yes. One of my faves. The general Laffeyette outside of Philly, awesome, dark, old, beams, good food %26amp; drink. Cheers.

The Liberal Cup in Hallowell, ME and The Run of the Mill in Saco, ME are two microbreweries owned by the same guy (with great beer).
Also the Sea Dog Brewery serves its award winning beer in Topsham, ME.
The Montsweag Roadhouse near Wiscassett, ME is a nice pub/restaurant off Coastal Route 1.
In Boothbay, the Vintage House sells a wide variety of specialty beers, however, it is not a bar. The Townsend Avenue Coffee House and Wine Bar has a few local beers on tap, and McSeagull%26#39;s has a large variety of beer on tap.
Hi nnieser,
There%26#39;s not a whole lot of pubs like you%26#39;re looking for in the Boothbay area. JoeSource mentioned the Thistle which is a nice spot and probably the closest to what you want. There%26#39;s also McSeagull%26#39;s, but I wouldn%26#39;t call it historic. Its just a fun watering hole on the harbor w/good food and live entertainment on the weekends.
There%26#39;s a neat place in Rockland that I just went to for lunch recently. Unfortunately I can%26#39;t remember the name at the moment, but will post back if I do.
It%26#39;s off the Main St., next to an Inn, has free popcorn, big tv%26#39;s and a very rustic, nautical atmosphere. There is communal dining if you like, or separate tables and a bar. Loved the place! Maybe someone more familiar with the area will know the place and post with its name :).
