Can you give me a quick list of the places we need to visit/explore while staying at Bar Harbor? Our plan is to be there for three nights and our plan is to see more than Bar Harbor itself. Thanks!
Bar Harbor BaseWe went last fall and fell in love!! That whole area is great, we were lucky enough to have a son who was a ranger at Acadia, but what a treat the whole trip was! Be sure and go on the sailing ship at least for the harbor tour, we heard the night dinner sail is great too. Acadia is a wonderful historic park and the carriage trails are great for biking, and bikes rentals abound around town.
We enjoyed being able to walk most places too. We had a map that showed scenic routes to vist most other towns on the island too.
Have fun! We never thought we would go there, but thankfully, our son is getting married there next fall, so we get to go twice!!

Bar Harbor BaseWhen are you coming to Bar Harbor? It makes a difference. Acadia National Park is, of course, the thing you must do.
: Drive the Park Loop Road
: Have tea and popovers at the Jordan Pond House, out on the lawn overlooking the pond and the Bubbles rock formation, before or after a walk around the Pond
: Rent a bike and bicycle around Eagle Lake, six miles, on the carriage road
: Book a half day kayak tour and see the mountains of Acadia from the water
: Drive to the top of Cadillac Mountain for either sunrise or sunset
: Take the Lulu Lubster Boat and watch a lobsterman at work
: Eat lobster outdoors some place where the butter can drip off of your elbows
: Go to the other side of the island from Bar Harbor and walk the Wonderland and Ship Harbor trails
Three days is not enough time to see Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, so I wouldn%26#39;t plan any extensive day trips elsewhere. While you%26#39;re exploring the park, you will time to also check out the rest of the island, such as Seal Harbor, Northeast Harbor, Southwest Harbor, and Bass Harbor. I wouldn%26#39;t plan on leaving the island.
I would spend one day exploring the Park Loop Road, stopping for a hike on the Great Heat Trail or Gorham Mountain, followed by a trip to the Jordan Pond House to walk around the pond, or skip the pond and hike up the Bubble Mountains. Finish the day with a drive up to the top of Cadillac and walk the Summit trail.
I%26#39;d spend day two either walking or biking the carriage trails to experience a different view of Acadia.
I%26#39;d spend the third day exploring Bar Harbor, including walking across Bar Island at low tide, then drive around the perimeter of the island, catching the other villages and maybe finishing up at Thurston%26#39;s Lobster Pound in Bernard.
After those three days, you%26#39;ll realize that you haven%26#39;t even scratched the surface and you%26#39;ll book six days for the next trip!
Enjoy.
Loving Bar Harbor is right that there is plenty to do without leaving Mt Desert Island....
But my own love of the area compels me to suggest you at least talk to an Acadia Park Ranger about the Schoodic Point section of the park.... It%26#39;s not on Mt Desert Island and requires a drive east down Rt 1 and then a turn down to the end of a penninsula. But I guarantee it will give you a look at some of the most outstanding Maine coastline you%26#39;ll ever see.
And depending on just when you%26#39;re going to be here, it can be far less crowded than the Mt Desert Island section of the Park.
