For all you locals...last year there was talk about re-constructing an old walking/hiking path that went from the Dorr Estate at Compass Harbor south to Schooner Head. Has there been any progress in this regard or any updates about it? Looking forward to trying something new this July!
New BH trail progress?
We were talking about that the other day. I%26#39;ve seen no updates and no activity in that area. Sorry.
New BH trail progress?
Thanks anyway! It did sound like a good idea, hope they%26#39;re able to do it in the future.
I also don%26#39;t know what is going on. After the intitial announcement, things seem to have dropped underneath the radar. My guess (and that really is all that it is) is that they still are negotiating for rights-of-way with the various landowners.
Makes sense, I can imagine that that would be a big production!
(Loved your photo%26#39;s, next best thing to being there!)
As I noted much earlier this year, that project seemed to have gone under the radar. Well, it has reappeared. Apparently, both the ANP and Jackson Lab
crews have (very) quietly working on it most of the summer. It now appears that they could have it finished by the end of the year.
They%26#39;re actually pretty far along. We were there last week and walked from the Compass Harbor parking lot through the woods (behind and between homes) all the way to the marsh that%26#39;s closest to Schooner Head. That was all gravel; from the marsh on is just a path cut through the woods. They were working on it while we were there. The path parallels the road starting at the back entrance to the lab. It was quite nice as there was hardly any traffic, lots of wildlife and beautiful leaves. Not sure how peaceful it would be in the summer with more cars on the road.
Yes. Matt, who with Angel manages the Opera House Internet Cafe, said that he was a bit disappointed that the path wasn%26#39;t located farther from the road. However, I suspect that they did the best that they could, given the different landowners they had to deal with.
Actually, even in the summer there wouldn%26#39;t be many cars on that road. It parellels the Park Loop Road which most people use. Only locals would be inclined to use that road and not that many of them.
This is exciting news! Looking forward to trying this new path next summer.
Does anyone know how many miles this trail is going to be?
