We visited York for our 20th anniversary. We left home around 9:30 am to make the 2 hr drive. We got up to Kittery around 11:30. We decided to go for lunch. I can%26#39;t remember the name of the place that we ate. Sunrise restaurant or something like that. Anyway, it was pretty good. After finishing lunch we decided to look around Kittery for a few hours. We couldn%26#39;t check into our B%26amp;B until 3pm.
Once we finally arrived in York we were still to early to check in. We decided to check out Nubble Light. It was a real pretty drive up to the light house. Beautiful, well kept homes. I noticed a lot of them were empty. I guess summer only residents. We stayed there about a half hour. Took some pictures and just enjoyed the warm weather.
Got to the Inn at Tanglewood Hall B%26amp;B around 3. Su and Andy the owners were very welcoming. I%26#39;ll post a review on that portion of this website. They showed us around and we made it to our room by 3:45. As a surprise for my husband I decided that we would renew our wedding vows. He didn%26#39;t know. I was getting nervous as we had to meet the jp at four. Once in our room I made up a story about going to take some pictues. He totally bought it. We hurriedly got dressed and headed to the park across the street from the York Harbor Inn. I had flowers arranged to be picked up by Julie at the York flower shop. When we got there she was sitting in the car with the flowers. She got out and came up to us. My husband had no clue. Then I told him what it was all about. The look on his face was worth every penny that I had paid. He was totally speechless. That%26#39;s an understatement. It was great. We renewed our vows in front of a stone bench that said ';love never dies'; and then she took all kinds of pictures. We went down to the beach to take more pictures. It was so beautiful. A day to remember forever.
We had dinner reservations that night at Clay Hill Farm. Thanks TA friends for a great recommendation. We arrived a little early so we decided to go for a ride and look for Mt Agamenticus. It was about 5:00 and we drove off. We got lost for a while. It took us about 35 minutes to find it. Once at the top we got out to look around. It was getting dark as the clouds rolled in so there really wasn%26#39;t much to see. We left and went back to Clay HIll for our 6 pm reservation. What a great restaurant. I made reservations and told them it was our anniversary so I wanted a nice table. Another tip from my TA friends. They gave us a great table right by the windows and the bird feeders. They have a dinner special on Wednesday night. You get soup or salad, choose from 5 entrees, dessert and a bottle of wine for 59.00 per couple. My husband and I don%26#39;t drink wine so we told them that but we still had to be charged for it. That was okay. We both got a prime rib dinner for 4.00 more each meal. We started off with a caeser salad, followed by the prime rib, fresh green beans and roasted red potatoes. Absolutely delicious. We enjoy it. We then had creme broulea (sp) for dessert and tea %26amp; coffee. My DH had a Budweiser and I had a mixed drink. It came to about 82.00. Worth every penny. They also have valet parking. A special place for a special evening.
The next morning we woke up to rain. Our innkeeper Su had made some suggestions for our day. We started off driving through York by Long Sand beach. There were a few hardy souls surfing and some people walking the beach. The small town of York (beach ?) was basically closed for the season. We continued our drive on 1A to Ogunquit. We were told to go to the end of Stearns St and park for free there. We parked and got out to walk Marginal Way. We started off at the Little Beach lighthouse and we walked towards Ogunquit. It was a nice walk. Very warm for this time of year. It was in the 60%26#39;s. I had an umbrella but didn%26#39;t have to use it (yet) Got to Perkins Cove and walked around some shops. Again mostly closed for the season. I bought a beautiful bracelet at a place called Out of the Blue. My husband bought it for our anniversary. We had a coffee and walked back to the car. It just started to rain as we got back. We were lucky that it held out for my picture taking.
Got back in the car and we were told to look for Ocean St. We were to drive down to the end, park and cross the bridge to Footbridge Beach. We totally missed the street so we didn%26#39;t bother. Stopped off at some shops. Nothing special. We then drove on to Kennebunkport. We%26#39;ve been there before so we didn%26#39;t bother to stop and shop. Just drove through and continued on Ocean Ave. We went by St Ann%26#39;s church and George Sr%26#39;s house. Turned down Pier Rd to the end and tried to take a picture of a couple of light houses. It started to rain pretty hard so we decided to have lunch at Pier 77. Very nice restaurant. We had a table right by the water. We both got a hamburger.
We drove up Rt 1 a little way then hopped on 95 and made the trip to Freeport. We went to LL Bean. After spending a couple hours there we wanted to check out the rest of the stores. We didn%26#39;t get very far when the skies just opened up. We ended our shopping right there. I didn%26#39;t mind. You%26#39;ve been to one outlet store you%26#39;ve been to them all. Made our way back down Rt 1 to Portland. We went to Cape Elizabeth and Fort Williams. We saw the Portland Light. It was a very impressive lighthouse. It stopped raining again just long enough for me to take some more pictures. We drove the rest of the way back to York on Rt 1. A little boring but the traffic on 95 was bad. It was around 5:30 at this point.
We did find Ocean St. in Ogunquit, drove to the end and saw the bridge. I asked my DH if he wanted to walk to the beach. He said no, I didn%26#39;t feel like it either. We went back to the B%26amp;B for a while. We went to dinner. We only wanted pizza. We drove to Wildcat restaurant. It didn%26#39;t look open. Not one car in the parking lot. They were open but we chose not to go there. We decided on a place called Vinny%26#39;s. They had a sign outside saying Red Sox/Patriots. It was close to 8 so we wanted to watch the Red Sox/Rays game. The salad we had was good but the pizza was awful. It was luke warm so they must have had it made already in the back and just put it in the microwave. Not good. We left and made our way back to the B%26amp;B. My DH wanted to go to bed. I wanted to watch the game. I watched the great comeback. What a game! Fell into bed finally at 1 am. Very happy that the Red Sox had won.
Woke up the next morning at 6:30 am. Had breakfast at the Inn and decided to go for a walk on the Cliff Path and Fisherman%26#39;s Walk. I was looking for great foliage pictures. I managed to get some nice photos. It%26#39;s a little gone by but I did get some shots. We walked to Wiggly bridge as someone had suggested. We walked over the bridge but didn%26#39;t walk the peninsula. We were too tired. We walked back on 1A to the B%26amp;B and checked out around 10:30. Stopped off at Stonewall Kitchens and When Pigs Fly bakery.
Thanks for the many suggestions I received here on TA. York is a beautiful place to visit. We especially loved that there were no crowds. I can%26#39;t imagine how it is in the summer. We%26#39;ll definitely be back.
Trip Report 10/15 to 10/17 very long :)

Trip Report 10/15 to 10/17 very long :)
Happy anniversary msar. Sounds like you pulled off a beautiful surprise for renewing your vows. All the best!
Thanks for both of your good wishes. We had a blast. It was better then I thought it was going to be. It%26#39;s a beautiful area.
GO PHILLIES! nice review though.
So happy that you enjoyed York, especially the inn and the Clay Hill Farm restaurant. We have seen so many have photos taken right where you did the renewal...how wonderful and what a nice surprise for him. I actually was checking the weather report that day from Florida knowing that you would be doing that. CONGRATS!!!
I was so worried that it would rain. She said we could renew our vows at her house. It just wouldn%26#39;t be the same. It was a beautiful day. The day after however, rained like crazy. We didn%26#39;t care. It was still a great time. You were right, the Inn was beautiful and Su %26amp; Andy were really nice. Check out my review and pictures.
