June 2009 Lodging

Hi Guys!

We%26#39;ll be visiting Ogunquit (from St Simons Island Ga) in June and would love input on lodging. We%26#39;d like to stay close to towncenter so as to walk to most destinations. Fancy, swanky amenities are not us. But we would like ocean front/view scenery, good food, interesting people, local flavor, etc. Last year we stayed at the Rocktide in Boothbay and loved it. Anything similar in Ogunquit? Thanks in advance. CoolRay

Not many hotels in Ogunquit have ocean views. Terrace by the Sea, Anchorage, Beachmere, Sea Chambers and Sparhawk have ocean views but they are on the more expensive side. The Norseman is the only hotel right on the beach, but its also in the middle of all the activity and crowds. You can check them out. We enjoy the Juniper Hill, although it does not have ocean views. It is very close to Town (5 minute walk) and it%26#39;s about a 15 minute walk out the back of the property to the beach. It has 2 outdoor pools and an outdoor hot tub as well as indoor facilities. Good luck with your search

Hi Coolray,

AttnySteve is right, in that there aren%26#39;t many oceanfront places in Ogunquit and he named those that are.

I%26#39;ve stayed at both the Anchorage and the Beachmere and the Beachmere is my all time favorite. It offers B%26amp;B type accomodations in the older, turn of the century section and also more motel type (though with charm) in the annex sections. Almost all accomodations have ocean views and a continental breakfast is included. Many have small kitchenettes and outdoor balconies. Its also within walking distance of restaurants, shops, galleries, etc.

There is a small beach within a short walking distance of the Inn. The Marginal Way is right there. The larger beach is a bit more of a hike.

The Anchorage has much more of a hotel type feel, offers a pool, exercise room, is within easy walking distance of all the restaurants, etc and is also right on the Marginal Way. However, not all the rooms have the great ocean views the Beachmere has, so if that%26#39;s important and you decide to stay there, ask for a direct view. Of course you will pay much more for that!

Also as AttnySteve mentioned, there are plenty of other nice accomodations to stay that%26#39;ll be a short walk to the beach, Marginal Way or to town but won%26#39;t have ocean views.

Definitely check out the websites for the places mentioned and see what appeals to you.

Good luck :).

P.S. Glad you liked the Rocktide! Great location, sunset views and wonderful place for dinner and/or drinks.

May I also suggest the Marginal Way House? We stay there the second weekend in June every year and just love it. Many of their rooms have ocean views and the grounds are just lovely. They also have some apartment style units as well as rooms in the main house. We love the loacation and never move our car all weekend. Enjoy your trip to Maine...it%26#39;s something we look forward to every year.

My husband and I have stayed at Terrace By The Sea twice, both times in June, and have absolutely loved it! We did not stay in the main inn, but rather in one of the rooms (there are 4,I think) right near the water, overlooking the Marginal Way. The people have been friendly and the breakfast that comes with the rate has been really good. You can sit out on the porch if it is nice out, which it always has been, and look out at the water while you enjoy coffee and the paper. Very, very clean.

We did go and inquire at the Anchorage, but it didn%26#39;t have that friendly-type of feeling to it when we were in the lobby and checking on rooms.

Cozy: Thanks for the reply and good information. We%26#39;ve come to rely on your observations. And yes, we%26#39;re heading back to BBH and the Rocktide in mid-June. Thanks CoolRay
