Part of the answer to your questions would depend on when you are planning on coming to Maine. Many of our best locations for ocean views, walks through the village, and little shops and boutiques are seasonal destinations. That%26#39;s not to say that Maine isn%26#39;t a great place to visit anytime of the year -- just that winter visits will offer fewer choices of destinations fitting your criteria than summer ones.

If you%26#39;re not in an immediate rush, I%26#39;d recommend you visit the mainetourism.com website and request some of their literature. It will offer detailed information on numerous destinations, allowing you to pick and choose the one(s) that best offer what you%26#39;re looking for.

In the meantime, an off-the-top-of-the-head answer to your questions (at the risk of offending good destinations that don%26#39;t make my personal short-list) would include: Ogunquit and Kennebunk/Kennebunkport in southern Maine; Boothbay Harbor, Rockland or Belfast in the mid-coast; and Bar Harbor, Northeast Harbor, Southwest Harbor in the Mt Desert Island/Acadia region.

I%26#39;d suggest you take a look at the Maine tourism and local Chamber of Commerce websites for them, and then come back if you have more specific questions about one or more of them.

I hate homework.... Ok.. Let me try this question again...

Coming in July... With a Newborn(5 months)

If you could pick one spot... to visist

What would it be =)

Each of Mainer-on-the-Go%26#39;s suggestions fit your bill, and each is a small, classic Maine seaside town where you%26#39;d get a super feel for ';authentic'; Maine. How active do you want to be? Would you be content at a resort or would you prefer a B%26amp;B, or an island cottage? I think it%26#39;s too hard to pick something for you, as there%26#39;s too many options. But, you asked where I%26#39;d go! I%26#39;d rent a cottage on Long Island, a 40-minute ferry ride from Portland. You have the incredible island life, and the ';city'; attractions when you need it.

Personally, I would choose the Bar Harbor area. Very scenic, and there are easy and difficult hikes to do. If you stay near the downtown, you can walk to things within that area.

Though you stated you wanted to visit small shops, the Freeport area just a little north of Portland boasts lots of wholesale shops of all sorts, some with handcrafted items (yankee candles, etc). I think it%26#39;s always worth a visit, and it%26#39;s easy to eat out as well with restaurants sandwiched in the shopping area.

I would agree with the Bar Harbor area. You can park youself in town and walk to shop and eat and see the harbor via the shore path. There are sidewalks so it%26#39;s great if you have a stroller. Acadia National Park is very easy to get around with a young child. There are lovely drives and many of the trails are flat. Plus you can walk on the carriage paths. We started bringing our daughter there when she was 6 months old and were able to see and do lots of things over 2 weeks with a baby backpack and a stroller.

Boothbay Harbor why ? not as far as Bar Harbor/ not as crowded as southern maine/ small enough for walking/plenty of hotels, inns or cottages/small town beach/various boat excursions/other interesting towns close by /fresh water lake with beach near by case closed

Check out the website for The Beachmere Inn in Ogunquit. We stayed there this past Columbus Day Weekend. The Beachmere is located right on Marginal Way. They have a beautiful front lawn and a nice mix of families and couples. I believe nearly all of the rooms are oceanview, which is important to us also. You can walk down to Perkins Cove and also walk to Main Street. Both areas are full of restaurants and shops. We did not use the beach area in front of the hotel, I think it is only useable at low tide. There is a much larger beach at the other end of Marginal Way. The room rate includes a very nice continental breakfast and they do have a small pub right on the premises for light meals and snacks. They do not have a pool, but they do have a large indoor hot tub. Kennebunkport and York are two other very nice small towns located only miles away. Hope this info helps.
