i would like to know where the brown water com es from that is coming out of the drain on short sands beach
brown water
It comes from the marshlands behind Railroad Ave. While in the marsh, the water is pretty still, and its color comes from decaying leaves and grasses ';simmering'; in the summer sunlight. You%26#39;ll notice a few of these ';brown'; streams at Long Sands Beach also. They drain out at low tide, and you%26#39;ll find their temperature to be much warmer than the beach water. While they can be unpleasantly fragrant and unpleasantly colored, there is nothing to worry about... although some people comment about sewage drains, etc., it%26#39;s really just nature at work.
brown water
got 2 different answers to this. not buying either one
The water is simply run off rain water. all the water from rain that hits pavement is diverted into storm drains so you don%26#39;t have flooding. these storm drains then eventually send water to the ocean. The marshes serve as retention basins and actually ';clean'; the water of silt, sand, and other contaminents.
fresh water from surface sources is brown you get used to it or use spring water.
Just there and walked lots on Long Sands. It is what it is, runoff water, and has been that way forever. I have been going there for over 40 years!
The locals put that brown water there to try to flush out you Massachusetts tourist.
That%26#39;s mean! I used to live in MA and went to York for over 40 years, and now have owned in York over 20 but live in FL! As much as I complain about how busy it is in the summer, they do keep the local businesses flush! Without MA and Canadian tourists, who knows....
if they wanted to flush me (a mass tourist) out it worked. i won;t go back.why is it that york beach is the only place with smelly brown water. other places have run off and its not brown and smelly.
thurstonbb: I think joesorce was kidding, but look at macjohn1%26#39;s postings. He gets several answers from people who know, but doesn%26#39;t believe any of them. Why ask if you won%26#39;t listen to the answer? So, while most tourists are here to enjoy what Maine has to offer, some come and complain about everything. At that point, especially at the end of the summer season, the natives get restless and ready to say good-bye until next year. I think that%26#39;s true in any tourist destination.
i do not think the truth is being told
