I was looking for lodging online in Wells, Maine area, and by accident I found a place fairly close to Kennebunkport that I could actually afford. The Franciscan Monestery Guest House in Kennebunk, Maine offered a cheaper rate, omitting a few items. We had no idea how charming it was until we got there. The grounds were just as beautiful as I remembered years ago, when I visited the Monestary. I never knew there was a Guest House. The Monestery has quite a history that involves the Lithoanian people. The grounds have beautiful flower gardens and statues that branch out over the extensive lawn and out in the wooded paths to the river and port. There are cabins to choose from and the main Guest House. We stayed in the guest house which is not fancy but very comfortable. As we walked in we were greeted by a warm friendly staff who gave us keys to the room and pointed out the towel room next to the office. A guest picks up their towel the next morning, along with toilet paper, bath mat, and what ever else was needed. There is no maid service during the week. These do-it-yourselfers cut down on the price. The rooms were 1970%26#39;s comfortable, clean , with towels , bath mat and soap in the . bathroom. We shared an adjoining room with my husband sister, who had a nice bedroom with a sink in it . The hallway had two computers for internet access for 15 minutes, and a coffeepot, pamplets, etc. The buffet room was downstairs, no elevator, but there was an access down by the parking lot and also around the building that you could walk to downhill. The buffet breakfast was included in your stay with two good sized room with plenty of seating. You were greeted by smiling Lithoanian Exchange students and a Lithoanian lady cook. She and the students baked all the bread, pastries, and other assorted goodies that adorned the buffet tables. Also were cold cuts, sliced cheeses and farmers cheese, jellies, jams, butter, thick rough delicious oatmeal, applesauce, raisins, and toppings, fruits of all kinds, some kind of egg quiche, waffles and syrups, coffee, tea, milk, water, juices. On some days she substituted waffles with crepes. You didn%26#39;t go away hungry. The pool outside was a good size with salt water. It was very relaxing and soothing. The also had a buffet for supper for $15.00 which we checked out but didn%26#39;t find enough there to warrant the price. The guest house was 1/2 a mile walking distance from the village of Kennebunkport and 1/2 mile walk from Kennebunk beach. A guest got a free parking pass for their car for the beaches in Kennebunk. We had a wonderful stay and enjoyed the whole area.
