First...thank you so much for advice we have gotten so far. I have been totally overwhelmed trying to decide where to go in Maine and how long to stay at each place. We will have about nine days. So...here is our plan so far. Just wondering if anyone could advise length of stays, etc. Fly into Boston and drive to Kennebunkport (2 days?) then up coast to Portland, Rockport, Camden, Bar Harbor and Acadia. Before we go home we would like to head back down to Hyannis, etc. My husband would like to see Plymouth, Quincy before flying out of Boston. We thought we could stay in Hyannis and make a day trip or two to Plymouth and Quincy. Is this too much to fit into nine days? Thanks so much. Have gotten a couple of travel guides also.
Overwhelmed...need just a little more help!
It does sound like a lot for nine days. However, some of your stops are easy to consolidate: Kennebunkport is about a half hour%26#39;s drive from Portland. Stay in one or the other. Camden and Rockport are right beside each other and I would do a one night%26#39;s stop there between your two other Maine points. Bar Harbor is the town adjacent to Acadia National Park.
Hopefully others can advise on your Massachusetts destinations. The Boston forum is really helpful.

Not sure what ';about nine days'; is? But here goes. Fly into Boston and drive to Kennebunkport. Shouldn%26#39;t take more than a couple of hours. We%26#39;ve been to Kennebunkport a couple of times. Two nights is definitely enough. From there head up to Camden. We%26#39;ve been in this area as well but stayed in Rockland as opposed to Rockport. Two nights might be one night too many but give it a shot for two nights.
From Camden head up to Bar Harbor/Acadia. This is our favorite place. We now usually spend a full week here. Matter of fact, this June we%26#39;ll be there for almost two weeks. Anyway, I%26#39;d look to spend at least three nights here. That makes seven nights.
Then head back to Massachusetts for two nights which makes nine. I think that would work out well.
Thanks much! So maybe we should be planning most of our trip in Bar Harbor. Thanks again.
Hello, We live in Maine, about 45 minutes from Bar Harbor/Acadia and it is one of our favorite spots. We go there frequently, winter and summer. However having people visit us, we%26#39;ve observed that some people are disappointed. It%26#39;s a very low key place - if you are into hiking/biking, just enjoying nature it%26#39;s great, but you need to get out of the car and put some real time into the area to appreciate it. Before you decide to spend a significant amount of your vacation here, make sure it%26#39;s the kind of vacation you want!
Thank you! I am not sure that I would enjoy a lot of hiking, etc. so maybe just a day trip would be enough to see scenery, Cadillac Moutain (sunrise), etc.
Pass on Hyannis There is nothing special about it and it is tooo crowded and busy .Try Sandwich or Barnstable on rte 6A the bay side
Although hiking/biking are big in Acadia, I don%26#39;t want you to get the impression that%26#39;s all there is to do! The boat trips are great - we%26#39;ve been on the whale watch trip about 5 times with guests, who always enjoy it (one couple went twice!), and kayaking is really fun, with no need for experience. In fact, that%26#39;s where we first tried kayaking.
Camden is also beautiful, but a much smaller area to explore. Rockland has had a makeover in the last few years, and downtown has many galleries and shops (it%26#39;s none the less a small town in maine, not NYC0. Be sure to visit the Farnsworth Art Museum if you like that kind of thing - they have a great collection of Andrew Wyeth paintings.
AND if you%26#39;re into the art of Andrew Wyeth - - combine a visit to the Farnsworth Museum with a trip to Cushing Maine to the house where Christina%26#39;s World was painted. An easy 20-25 minute drive away, they provide maps at the Farnsworth. They did a great job of preserving/converting it into a museum - quite the pilgrimage for Wyeth fans.
