We have rented a ';Great Pond Cabin'; outside of Franklin for a week in July. It is located about 26 miles from Bar Harbor and should be handy for traveling to MDI and northward up the coast.
I know we should have probably asked about it before renting it, but I was wondering if anyone here is familiar with these cabins? There are only two of them and they look cute, plus the setting looks to be very peaceful. We got a good price for a week, and they will let us bring our small dog.
Anyone familiar with these?????
Great Pond Cabins by Franklin, Ellsworth, and MDI?
I am not familiar with these cabins specifically but by looking at the website I think you stumbled upon a good find. That is if your main goal is to enjoy the peace and natural beauty Maine has to offer. The private setting should be great. There are few places that for that price and that will allow pets. I think you will enjoy it. With luck someone may respond who is familiar.
You will be way out of the hustle and bustle but yet still close enough to enjoy Acadia and Bar Harbor. You will have to contend with traffic some though getting to and from. From Franklin you can take back roads to avoid the traffic congestion in Ellsworth and Trenton but will have to still contend with the traffic on the island. The ';traffic'; is bad for us locals but isn%26#39;t really that bad compared to other places I have been.

Thanks, CountyMounty.
We thought this looked very peaceful, which we like. I would have loved to have been on the ocean, but the places we found on the ocean and that allowed dogs were quite a bit more money. There isn%26#39;t a TV, but that doesn%26#39;t bother us. There is a canoe with each cabin, so that should be fun and we look forward to some campfires in the outdoor fireplace area. I looked at soooo many places before we decided on this that my head was spinning! We figured with the money we could save on this one, we would be able to to another activity or something. Hopefully this will work out well for us. We are really looking forward to our trip.
I think you made a good decision as long as you dont mind driving a little to get places. When you are at the cabin it is time to RELAX.
As you said the money you saved will go toward something else. Be careful with the fire if it is dry and windy, be sure to drown it before you leave or before you go to bed. Make sure to post back afterwards on how they were so others may know. I may just try to check them out myself sometime when I am driving through that area just so I know.
No, we don%26#39;t mind driving a little. We live in a rural area in Iowa, and we are used to driving for lots of things. We will be very careful if we have a fire. We are pretty conscientious about those kinds of things. Actually, we are very conscientious about everthing! Maybe it%26#39;s all the years we have been school teachers. 8-) Thanks for the reminder, though!
If you have a chance to check out the Great Pond Cabins, let me know. The communication with them has been very good.
BoaterKathy,
How did you like the cabins?
We are looking at going there end of June/Early July.
Curious how cold the water is at that time of the year for swimming.
