Family with 2 teens staying in Portland for 3 nights after Christmas...what can we plan? Willing to drive a bit. No skiers here.
Portland with teens in winter?Depending on their/your interests, the first thing that comes to mind is a Portland Pirates hockey game - one step down from the Bruins, but much less expensive in a fun setting. They have a home game Sunday afternoon the 28th against Worcester. Check their website: PortlandPirates.com for ticket details.
If you get good weather, and they%26#39;re interested, a stroll around the grounds of Portland Head Light, a great lighthouse location, can be fun and interesting. It%26#39;s been there since 1791.... See Portlandheadlight.com for photos and info.
If they%26#39;re into shopping, the Maine outdoors company L.L. Bean is about fifteen minutes up I-95....their store is open 24-hours a day, 365 days a year....challenge the kids to find the locks on the doors (there aren%26#39;t any).
Beyond that, I guess I%26#39;d need to know more about specific ages and interests for other recommendations -- and am sure some of the Portland-area folks will have more ideas.
Portland with teens in winter?LLBean offers ';outdoor Adventures'; of a few hours/half-day duration. E.g. snowshoeing. All equipment is included in cost. May need reservations but some are ';walk-ins allowed';. Details should be on their site
One idea: snow tubing - they haul you up, you tube down. Here%26#39;s a link to the Maine Office of Tourism%26#39;s listing for tubing parks. The two closest to Portland would be the one in Windham (about 20 minutes away) and the one in Oxford (about 30 minutes).

Another idea: a night of comedy at Merrill Auditorium. One of Maine%26#39;s favorite comedians is Bob Marley. He does several shows after Christmas. Here%26#39;s a link:
