I don%26#39;t believe there is a carriage ride up Cadillac Mountain. The carriage ride goes up Day Mountain. The stables are right next door to Jordan Pond so you can do that before you take the sunset ride and get both.

There are four routes available for one- and two-hour tours, but I%26#39;ve been told by Wildwood Stables that the sunset tour to Day Mountain is the most popular, along with the morning drive to Cobblestone Bridge on Pemetic Mountain. You should try to make a reservation, but you can only do that a week in advance. There%26#39;s a blog entry under ';News'; about Mr. Rockefeller%26#39;s carriage roads at www.ouracadia.com. In addition, ';Tips about Fall Trips'; might be of interest to you.

I have been on the carriage rides many times. All are good. The ride to Jordan Pond is the least interesting. However, you can%26#39;t beat a popover alomode with chocolate sauce. The views to the bubbles are great too. That would be my choice.

Day mountain is often fogged in making it less intersting, but still enjoyable.

The trip to Cobblestone Bridge is good too, but not vastly different from the ride to Jordan Pond. Depending on the driver, the lecture about the bridge and Mr. Rockefeller can be very informative.

I also like the previous idea of driving to Jordan Pond for popovers or dinner which is fantastic (try the all inclusive meal with the fish chowder, their lobster is the best on the island.) and doing another tour.

Planning to visit Acadia in May 2009; doing some research and found this of interest. Ivygreer, which carriage ride did you take? Want to take one although we%26#39;ll be driving to Jordon Pond and around the park also.

photographertravel, your pictures are fabulous! Love the early morning ones, especially the lighthouse!

thanks for sharing those.

You might want to check occasionally this winter with the park web site:

It is possible that there will be a new concessionnaire at Wildwood Stables this year, so the types of carriage rides and schedules may differ from years past.

If I hear/read anything, I%26#39;ll post it here.

Thanks cwvoight. I%26#39;ll keep checking. I%26#39;m sure I will have more questions as planning progresses. I%26#39;m already looking for lodging (in Bar Harbor) and really hard to choose as so many of the places look inviting. We%26#39;re into scenery and lighthouses and are really looking forward to both in Maine.
