I have never stayed at the Rockmere Lodge and am in no way commenting on it from any experience, but with so many hotels, motels and Inns in the area it certainly seems slightly suspicious when you see how many people comment about it, weekly in the ';Overview'; section of this site. I would appear that everyone who visits Ogunquit stays at the Rockmere Lodge.
Rockmere Lodge
It%26#39;s especially interesting that all of the recent posters have made only one post to TA: a glowing review of the Rockmere Lodge. 145 reviews for a B%26amp;B with 8 rooms. Hmmm.
Rockmere Lodge
I read with interest your note. I appreciate your saying that you have never stayed at the Lodge so your opinion is not based on fact. I also noticed that many of your comments are not positive. As a society we need to focus on the positive. We have stayed at the Rockmere Lodge recently and have already booked another stay just today. Being a condo owner in this beautiful seaside town I feel that I can honestly comment on this B%26amp;B. The positive reviews are well deserved. The owners take pride in their home and in providing their guests with a wonderful holiday. They take pride and give wonderful customer service. It is the old fashioned way of doing business. I think that people come away feeling so positive that they want to let others know about this wonderful B%26amp;B. If you like to nit pick, you say there are 145 reviews I only see 143. It is a shame that your comments would lead others to believe that there is some sort of problem at this B%26amp;B. Read my own recent review where I mentioned that I met people from around the country. When talking with the InnKeepers I learned that their guests come from around the world. So many people can%26#39;t be wrong. It is very obvious that you haven%26#39;t stayed here or you would be like the other 143 people who can%26#39;t wait to stay again, just like us!
So, of course, I had to go look. I went back as far as October and every poster except one was posting for the first time and loved it. Also, everyone mentions the innkeepers by name. The clincher is that every posting has all ';helpful'; votes at the bottom - there is absolutely no one that didn%26#39;t find the review great.
AttnySteve is a frequent poster to the Ogunquit site. He isn%26#39;t being negative; just drawing attention to something that seems strange. Since this is your first posting, go to other hotels and establishments listed. See if you see the same pattern. I doubt it.
I only made it back to October. Some day I%26#39;ll get down to #144 and see what it says.
I logged on to trip advisor today to see if any of the people I met at Rockmere last week had posted pictures....and saw your comments. How very sad that someone who has never stayed at Rockmere finds it necessary to make comments questioning the comments of others. I grew up in N.E. and many of my relatives lived in Maine. I had not been back in years and decided to visit some of the places that held such fond memories for me. That was 15 years ago. The place we chose to stay was Rockmere Lodge. I fell in love with Maine all over again and have returned every fall since.
And yes, we stayed at Rockmere Lodge every time.
I can tell you that many do the same thing since it is not unusual for us to see familiar faces on our visits and that makes the weekends even more special. This year I came in December as well and brought 2 friends so that we could experience Christmas by the Sea. It was also my birthday and without a doubt, one of the best ever! Rockmere is charming, the gardens beautiful, and the innkeepers are friendly and welcoming. Andy and Doug...yes, I know their names, and even with all 8 rooms filled last weekend, they called each of us by name as well. It%26#39;s that kind of place. I am sure there are other good places to stay in the area, but Rockmere will always be my choice. I am alredy planning my next visit.
I in no way was attacking the Rockmere Lodge. I just found it suspicious that of all the great places in Ogunquit, there are so many posts about the Rockmere; a legitimate observation. Its ok to disagree with me, thats what this site is about, but its interesting that the two posts that disagree are attacking me that I%26#39;ve done some horrible thing. Its also interesting that this just happens to be the first post ever on this site for both of them.
Well, it just may be that so many people comment about Rockmere because it is an exceptional place to stay in Ogunquit.
I am not a big fan of forums but now I have 2 posts and you are unlikely to see any more... unless that is, I see the integrity of my review being questioned again.
A B%26amp;B that has been in business for 16 years and has lots and lots of return guests must be doing a good job. I%26#39;ve stayed at Rockmere nearly 20 times in the past 10 years because I love the rooms, the location, the breakfasts, the peace %26amp; quiet. Apparently alot of other guests agree.
Steve, good job. I think you%26#39;re on to something here. This forum has been very quiet this off season and now suddenly brand new users are commenting about how great that place is. Hmmm...
Thanks Ogtgrll. When I first was reading about the Rockmere, it sounded interesting. But now with this inordinate number of posts it%26#39;s actually backfiring.
My sentiments exactly, OgtGrrl. There%26#39;s a difference between negativity and a healthy skepticism. And it%26#39;s also interesting to note that it%26#39;s the regular contributors to TA who are the skeptics here. Maybe TA should look into this . . .
