May Visitation

Coming into Maine the week of May 11th.. I%26#39;ve read some of the forums that say it may be too cold, too rainy, too foggy.....

I was sooooo looking forward to this vacation and now I%26#39;m not so sure it%26#39;s the right time. We plan on spending 2 nights in Kittery and then moving up the coast for the remaining 3 nights.

Any suggestions on whether we should reschedule until warmer weather or if our timing will be ok. We%26#39;re not too much into the beach scene except for looking out at the ocean - more of a relaxing sight seeing tour we%26#39;re on. HELP !!

May Visitation

We have a place in York and have been all different times of the year. Will be there late April early May this year for the first time. It could be a mixed bag of weather...no way to tell. Two years ago I went mid-April and it was snow when I got there then 80 degrees within two weeks. Just don%26#39;t go too far north and you should be OK. Where are you staying in Kittery?

May Visitation

As others have said, it could be cold and rainy, but it also could be sunny and beautiful. ';If you don%26#39;t like the weather in Maine, wait a minute'; is a local saying for a reason - things change quickly.

We often ';staycation'; in Maine in April, and have always enjoyed it. Some of the more seasonal resorts do not get into full swing until after Memorial Day, but many towns, like Kennebunkport, Damariscotta, Camden, etc. are year-round destinations.

We%26#39;re staying at the Coachman Inn in Kittery unless you know of some cute little local secret that you%26#39;d like to share LOL

The Coachman Inn is exactly what it says - right across for the outlet stores. It is not near the water or anything else, just shops and a few restaurants. If your goal is shopping it is the right place to be. I certainly would prefer a place and area with more character that is near or on the water. Just a few minutes up the road is York Harbor with the Tanglewoood Hall B%26amp;B, Chapman Cottage B%26amp;B, Stage Neck Inn and York Harbor Inn. In Kittery is the Portsmouth Harbor Inn %26amp; Spa. You can walk into Portsmouth from there. Again, depends on what you are looking for! Anchorage Motel is on Rt.#1-A in York and right across from a very long and beautiful for walking beach - Long Sands. They are open year round and have indoor pools too.

Early June, mid September are the best....weather%26#39;s usually great and no crowds. Whatever you do, if you go in May, the later the better. Also, I wouldn%26#39;t stay in Kittery....try York, Ogunquit, Wells or Kennebunkport!

We%26#39;ve stayed in Ogunquit twice during the month of May, once last year and also in 2006. We got rain, sun, warm, and cold...sometimes all in one day :-). Regardless, we had a wonderful time, ate really well, walked a lot (Marginal Way, Kennebunkport) and would do it all over again. If you%26#39;re not looking to come back with a suntan, or swim in the ocean, May is a relaxing time...way less crowded too.
