just a friendly note to people. it is a terrible economy and many people cannot afford a vacation for an extended amount of time, so just be assured that there are many places such as motels in the area that WILL lower their prices as there will nto be as big a crowd as the past years. try to bargain as much as you can. I have done it and it is worth a try. remember, they woudl rather be filled with something rather than NOTHING. Most of them are grossly overpriced anyways./

Is this still based on the fact that you negotiated a lower price on 4 rooms a year ago? It seems everyone disagreed with your posting then.

I love the ';most of them are grossly overpriced anways[sic]'; statement. Made most likely by someone who has never owned a business so likely has no clue how pricing is done, especially in a very seasonal business.

I don%26#39;t know many folks who are getting rich running B%26amp;Bs or Inns in Maine. At any given time it seems like about 20% of them are up for sale because the dream of running of B%26amp;B just doesn%26#39;t match up with the reality.

I would be a ';HE'; and am a ripe age of 72, and I HAVE OWNED 4 lodging establishments in OOB, so safe to say I know what I am talking about. I live a very comfortable lifestyle because of my past endeavors, but I kept things at a level that ';everydsy'; folks can afford. Enough said....take the advice as given or ignore it..the choice is yours.

Good for you for having been a successful owner of seasonal lodging establishments. But you really aren%26#39;t doing a favor for those who came after you by encouraging people to bargain for lower prices and suggesting that most owners are setting their prices too high. I know several inns up here in Bar Harbor that are being foreclosed on by the banks.

Was not talking about Bar Harbor only OOB. That is an altogether different atmosphere and clientele. It is gorgeous up there and very well kept and worth it. Many beautiful places up there. I have also stayed there, and I can attest to the fact that t.he surrounding area and establishment are top notch
