Planning a 5 night trip to Sunday River over Christmas. I understand that they have a free shuttle from Bethel village to the mountain, so that you really do not have to stay at the resort. Does anyone have any info, such as schedules and stops?

Hi marymellon,
I don%26#39;t know about the free shuttle but I wanted to bump this up with hopes someone with local knowledge will reply.
Good luck!

P.S. I%26#39;ve been to Sunday River/Bethel a zillion times in the past but always stayed on the slopes. In my opinion its really the best way to go as parking is a nightmare and the mountain is where the action is. However the town of Bethel is pretty and between there and the resort are movies, Big (a laser/video game center) and some nice drives.

Yes, there is a free shuttle between Sunday River and Bethel. I%26#39;ve taken it once, I believe they run every 20 or 30 minutes, it takes a bit of time compared to the ten minute ride by car, because it stops at every motel, inns and major condos along the way. You may get information at http://www.bethelmaine.com/ The website provides other information on the area, accomodations, rental agencies, etc. Depending on the number of people going, you might also consider renting a house, just watch out that it%26#39;s not out of the way from the shuttle stops.
Parking at the ski resort is not too much of an issue, although a bit of a pain, I%26#39;ve always found spaces even during the holiday days, and there is a shuttle picking people up to the main lodge. You can also unload and then park. The skiing is great and the lift lines are nothing compared to upstate NY and VT. We%26#39;ve been going there for years, we now own a house right in Bethel and we like the fact that we are in town, with supermarket and several restaurants, some pretty good.
We run Bethel Hill B%26amp;B and also have vaction rentals in the Village. The free shuttle bus runs every 1/2 hour and takes about 20 minutes to get from the village to South Ridge Lodge. It also allows you to go to pubs and restaurants at night without driving. Staying in the village on holidays can be a lot less expensive than on the slopes as well.
Hey marymellow,
You can pick up a schedule anywhere around Bethal or Newry(Sunday River) different buses and trolley run different places so look at the schedule AND ask the driver before you get on, they are very helpful. We have stayed both on and off the mouintain and have used this service. Sometimes it is a long ride if you get on the wrong one. The mountain has more going on, but Bethal is nice and quaint. We have stayed on the mountain and taken the bus into town to go eat at the Sudbury Inn (our favorite place) or to go walk around to the little shops.
Let us know how you make out at
';our favorite mountain';
