Planning a day trip to Portland - staying at Regency Hotel - what is shopping like in area around hotel?

Lots of boutique shops. A Christmas store. Some art stores. A book store. Lots of coffee shops. A good kitchen store.

I don%26#39;t know what interests you in terms of shopping. As has been noted, there are several boutique shops and bookstores, a great kitchen store (Le Roux Kitchen, on Commercial) and a lovely Italian grocery--Micucci%26#39;s---on India, just off Middle Street.

Also, within about a 20-minute drive, is Freeport, with the L.L. Bean mother ship and many other stores (and Azure Cafe---a very good restaurant).

Yup -- The Regency is on the edge of a downtown Portland area called The Old Port... Lots of former commercial shipping buildings preserved and restored as botiques, one-owner shops, restaurants, galleries, etc.... But if you%26#39;re looking for discount outlets and chain stores, you%26#39;re going to be in the wrong place....but that%26#39;s probably a good thing, really, %26#39;cause you can find those big-boxers almost anywhere. The Old Port has lots of quirkly, one-of-a-kind places...everything from original artwork to sailing ship fixtures to individualized tote bags and kitchen stuff. Some great restaurants too....and all within one to five blocks of the hotel... Best advice I can offer is walk down to Commercial Street, start there, and work your way back up the hill... Otherwise, you%26#39;ll get to the bottom of the hill and find you don%26#39;t have the energy to walk back up again.

Enjoy !!
