Family vacation, on a budget

Hi, We%26#39;ve never been to BBH and would love to come up for about a week this summer. We%26#39;re trying to squeeze the most out of our budget, which would be about 1200-1500 for lodging. Would like to stay 4-6 nights, and our kids are 9 and 10 years old. Not sure if I want to rent a house ... a casual resort/cabins or a motel would be ok. Just clean and nice and somewhat close to the beach. Also, is the water still freezing in August? Thanks in advance.

the chamber of commerce has a list of people that has property for rent,try that it has cottages for under a thousand.that way you can prepare your meals instead of eating out which can be pricey in bbh.the water is always freezing ! try lake damarascotta state park on those really hot days carry on

Also check out Vacation Rentals By Owner site. While many are above your price range, there are some there, too under $1500 a week. I agree that for a week%26#39;s vacation, it%26#39;d sure be nice to have your own kitchen.

The Beach Cove Inn is nice because it%26#39;s right on a private little lake with rowboats and swimming for the kids. Downtown and the ocean is a walk of about a mile. Nice place for families.

Just in case you don%26#39;t know, BBH is not ';beach';, at least not that I know of, it is more rocky coastline/lobster boats/ etc.

I know you said BBH, but would you consider Acadia on Mount Desert Island? It%26#39;s further, but there are lots of rentals in your price range and the ';entertainment'; for kids your age is wonderful (and free) because of the park.
