Best area to stay (mid May)

We are traveling mid May and would like to stay here for a day or two. What is the best area to stay to be close to everything and walk around?

Best area to stay (mid May)

I would suggest staying in the Old Port Section of town. Hilton Garden Inn and the Portland Regency are the 2 hotels in that area. You%26#39;re close to the water and walking distance to just about everything. We usually just park our car at the hotel and don%26#39;t use it again until we%26#39;re ready to leave. It%26#39;s also a very easy drive out of town if you wanted to go up to Freeport or out to Cape Elizabeth.

Forgive my ignorance, but when you say that you are within walking distance to just about everything, what does that entail? Restaurants, shops, any specific attraction that we should not miss?

Portland is a historic small city, with a section along the waterfront referred to as the ';Old Port.'; This is the area to stay in to be able to walk to restaurants, bars, ocean excursions, etc. There are four hotels in the area: Hilton Garden Inn (waterfront, not airport), Regency, Portland Harbor and Holiday Inn by the Bay. The Holiday Inn is a few blocks further from the center of the action, thus not as expensive.

You can read quite a bit about Portland in the ';Portland Overview'; to the left under the search box.
